Not going to lie, I used (an edited version of) that as an example in a uni tutorial once about privacy on the internet. I think I may have scared my entire class with the description of how intense we were.

I don't intend to go to my high school reunions, should they ever happen. I don't even have anyone from my year friended on Facebook. But I get an email that this place is closing, and I feel the urge to rush back and post.

I'm not entirely sure what to say, to be honest, mostly because this place meant more to me than you can possibly imagine. So, here goes:

11(!) years ago, I was a desperately lonely teenager who found a website listed in a PC magazine, and consequently, a forum, and some of the best friends I've ever made. It's been years, but this forum remains one of the happiest memories of my teenage years. This place seriously kept me sane, ironically enough, and I'll be forever grateful.

Back when I wasn't comfortable being myself, back when I didn't even like myself that much, this place made me feel like I had value, like I had worth. It made me realise that there were people out there like me, that I wasn't alone. And I thank you. All of you.

For the record, being a geek these days is kind of awesome. I once struck up a conversation with someone based purely on the fact I was reading a Neil Gaiman novel. And there's tumblr, which gives me all the gifs of pretty people I never even knew I wanted, and my coworker, who is old enough to literally be my mother, discusses Game of Thrones. I even once used the word "angst" in a reflective statement I wrote in university (it made sense in context).

We've definitely won.

And this is far too serious a post for what was a largely non-serious portion of my life, so here's a bunch of things I look back upon with fondness, in no particular order:

- Shysmilz. All of it.
- Pink Milk.
- Obsessees.
- Shysmilz.
- That one time, with the thing? Yeah That. It was awesome.
- Meeting some of you in person.
- Meeting some of you in person more than once.
- Gigglefests! Young people these days are so spoilt with their Skype and their in-built laptop cameras. We had to walk uphill, both ways, in the snow and ice in order to voice chat! And there weren't pictures, either, unless you printed out some of the ones people posted and made a shrine!*
- That bit where our post counts got so insane we needed new milestones.
- Shysmilz.
- Banana Phones.
- The word Blettie.
- Murgatroyd, my totally awesome pink koala.
- Everything else I am probably missing.

(Hey, I could probably post enough times in the remaining 24 days to beat HMP's post count forever, right? Just kidding. Maybe.)

*Wanders off to see if she can find TK-421. 9 years is an awfully long time to be absent from your post!*

* Please note, I never actually did this.**
** Or did I? Mwahaha.

And, yay for name changes. smilehuge.gif

QUOTE (taryavewen @ May 14 2005, 12:00 AM)
All I can say right now is that there are portions of the New Testament that were addressed to specific churches. (Homosexuality is discussed in other verses aside from the one you mentioned.) Some of the things mentioned were specific instructions for those churches in that culture. I don't know about you, but I see a pretty big difference between instructions about head coverings and God's opinion of sexuality.

Why?

If the rule about headcoverings has been updated why not rules about sexuality? If you're going to pick and choose, and say "that was obviously meant for a different time, person, culture, place, etc" on one thing, dear, what's stopping you from picking and choosing on them all?

QUOTE (taryavewen @ May 13 2005, 09:40 AM)
Homosexuality is a different story, however. God also made it clear in the New Testament (written after Jesus' resurrection) that same-sex relationships are morally wrong in his eyes.

By any chance, do you happen to be referring to this passage, Tarya?

QUOTE
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

(Romans 1: 26-27)

If so, then you must also cover your head when you pray. For, heed this passage:

QUOTE
5And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. 6If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.

(1 Corinthians 11: 5-6)

It's in the New Testament, dear. Definately not written just for the Jews, for, unless my studies in Christianity are misleading, Paul was on the side of the Gentiles when it came to not having to follow Jewish law to become a Christian.

*grins*

I failed music practicals when music was compulsory, back in year 7 and 8 of school.

My instrument? The glockenspiel. All I had to do was hit the right 2 notes over and over, in time. And I still failed. tounge.gif

After eating a lot of fast food while I was in America, I went off most McDonald's stuff for a while (Though, we found they were better than Burger King... we nearly all got sick from Burger King. tounge.gif). Though, I love their McCafe stuff- cake and hot chocolate= yum.

As to meat? Definately a meat-eater. I probably don't eat a lot of meat by some people's standards, but I definately have some at least once a day. Except Ash Wednesday and Good Friday- they're fish days. wink.gif And, well, any other time we have fish- usually at least once a week, on average.

PS. It's also noteworthy to point out that Jesus was not the first nor the last to claim that his was the only way to redemption. (Or through him, as the case may be.)

*grins* That's very true.

Something I often wonder... how can we be sure? And now, I know. The answer is we can't. We have to find our own way, the spirituality that works for us, personally.

We could die, and there could be nothing. We could die, and find that the afterlife isn't as we've been taught by doctrine. Somethings, you have to take on faith, and everyone has faith in different things.

QUOTE
What I'd like to know instead is why Peter took over... when Jesus clearly stated that he wanted his followers to go with James, in case something happened to him.

I've always been taught Jesus handed the role of leader of the church on Earth to Peter, so I woundn't really know. eyeball.gif

QUOTE
There is abundant historical information pointing to the resurrection, which I would be happy to discuss here if you would like.

Okay. I'll bite. wink.gif

Do you seriously know of any unbiased sources that claim Jesus rose from the dead?

How do you explain the resurrection if Jesus was nothing more than a wise man?

Hype? Something made up by one of his followers to impress people- a sort of "our guy is better than your guy" thing? tounge.gif

Yes, I do believe he's the Son of God. But my education is raising me as a person who's able to see with objectivity other people's stances on the issue.

I'm trying to convince my best friend to go with me on our next pupil free day. I'd go alone, but my mum's on afternoon shift, meaning I can get to the cinema with no problems, but then I'd have to hang around afterwards until dad finished work. And my parents and I aren't comfortable with the idea of me hanging around in a shopping centre for up to 1 1/2-2 hours by myself.

*curses the lack of decent public transport in that area* (it's almost impossible to get to the train station safely on foot).

Cassie did say she'd watch it with me, though- provided there's nothing 'better' on. So, here's hoping that she doesn't want to see Kingdom of Heaven just because Orlando Bloom's in it. tounge.gif

Or, in my case, despair and irritation. tounge.gif

*grins* It's tradition. Something about the name you pick honouring past Popes, and indicating that you'd like to follow their lead, at least a little bit, in your own reign.

(But they never choose Peter, because it'd be almost akin to blasphemy to compare yourself to the Pope that Jesus selected. I learn a lot of random things. toungebig.gif)

To be honest, leading up to the announcement, I was praying that it wasn't going to be Ratzinger.

When I heard the news this morning, I felt like crying. Then I felt angry. Now, I'm resigned to it, but still not happy.

Ratzinger... is, in my mind, too conservative. He's got a habit of alienating people and dividing them on issues. He's not the sort of man I would've wanted for Pope- I wanted an uniter, not a divider (as it is, several progressive and liberal Catholics I know have openly stated their desire to leave the church now that it's under his lead... many others are unhappy, but sticking it out in the hope that, since he's 78, he won't reign for long enough to do too much damage).

QUOTE
Why not pick something completely new? Or at least something moderately new?

Well, Benedict was a relatively recent Pope... but, if you're talking RECENT names, the last four have been John, Paul, John Paul and John Paul II. So, I think it's a good idea to get away from all the Johns and Pauls. toungebig.gif
