This will be a day long remembered. ... I need not complete the quote confused.gif

It is with sadness that I read your e-mail Blue.

And then I think back on the blettie haydays and smile. Thankyou one and all.

Twilight is upon us, and soon night must fall. That is the way of things, the way of the forum.

May the Force be with you all.

** Shimmers into existence as an Ex-Mod Jedi Ghost **

The official SW website states the box set will be released in "Fall 2011"

http://www.starwars.com/themovies/saga/meb...uray/index.html

Apparently the set will be an updated release of the DVD versions (ie extra scenes & updated effects). Reaction online has been mixed.

My personal hope is that the Episode I Yoda puppet is replaced with a CGI one; that the sandstorm scene is in Episode VI; Luke's saber in Episode IV is reset to blue; Jedi Spirit Qui-Gon is added to Episode III talkiong to Yoda before the twins are born; Luke's Jedi training is expzaned in Episode V and that the Jedi research droids scene is added to Episode II. ... I could go on forever here lol.

** Fades into the Force **

The BBC has already refuted the claims that Doctor Who will be axed.

Even if it did postpone the show its never going to disappear forever. It is, after all, the longest running Sci Fi TV show ever (it was first broadcast 23/11/63 - the day after JFK was shot & killed) and has faced many attempts to scrap it. Eventually another fan will pick it up when he or she gets to the BBC as a director/producer and picks up the reigns.

Besides, With David Tennant as Doctor Nr 10, there's still plenty more live in the old dog yet - three more actors get to be Doctor Who before he can officially no longer regenerate..... and having said that it never stopped the Master from exceeding his augmented lifespan and going beyond his 12 regenerations / 13 incarnations .....

I would summarise that they sem to spend about 50% of their time on Earth.

But that got me thinking. In the classic 26 series of Doctor Who they were Earth-bound for many of them. Heck the Doctor was exiled there after being punished by the TimeLords (causing his re-generation from Patrick Troughton to Jon Pertwee) for disobeying their laws. confusedsmall.gif

Hi Paul. Ahhh the memories. I have a similar collection and also recall being wowed by kids who had the ones i didn't have lol. Isn't it odd how certain things stay in your memory. I can remember playing with mine using my parents furniture in our living room as various different sets. We had a large room-divider that had staggered shelving which doubled as either a Star Destroyer's various decks or as the Death Star. Another piece worked well with my Dagobah playset that seemed to me to be ideal as a play area for Dagobah and in my version of The Empire Strikes Back the other bounty hunters that were looking for the Falcon made their way to Dagobah for Yoda & Luke etc to do battle with.

I have a photo somewhere of one year when it snowed & I took my Han in Hoth outfit outside with Chewie & the Wampa to re-enact scenes from Hoth (even though Han & Chewie never actually encountered the Wampa - ha ha I was less than 10 when I saw TESB & my memory was sketchy)

Aaaah happy days.

As for value, well you can use good old Ebay as a guide. There's always hundreds on there, but as a general rule of thumb the played with toys go for a few pence each - maybe a couple of quid. There are a few rare ones taht command higher prices even loose - particularly those from the final wave of figures (Amanaman, Luke Stormtrooper, General Lando, Barada, etc etc). I recall looking up Yak Face from that final wave and nearly fainting at its value MIMB (Mint In Mint Box) and then realising that even loose it was worth 75 shocked.gif

But to me the joy of these things was playing with them. I would need to be really desperate for money to ever sell them.

A recent publication offers an explanation for this. "The Making of Star Wars" by JW Rinzler published in hardback this year has a section regarding charcters' backgrounds. Before I quote the section in question though please read the following "Important note" printed at the beginning of the section:

"Important Note: The following background stories and ideas ... were in many cases George Lucas's first thoughts on what lay beyond the parameters of the first film. Many of these ideas, however, he has since modified to a lesser or greater degree:

Chewbacca didn't get a medal because medals don't really mean much to Wookiees. They don't put much credence in them. They have different kinds of ceremonies. The Wookiee Chewbacca was in fact given a great prize and honour during a ceremony with his own people. The whole contingent from the Rebel Alliance went to Chewbacca's people and participated in a very large celebration. It was an honour for the entire Wookiee race".

So though it might not be the "in story" reason, it certainly explains why the shooting script dictated that Chewie was precluded from a medal.

Well it was a great book but I must admit to being a little disappointed with the last part as it semed to simply novelise part of the Jedi Vs Sith comicbook series. Ok it wasn't word for word annotation but I was hoping there would be at least a chapter or two set after the events of the comicbook series finished.

But I guess if you haven't read the comicbook series then this will be a very entertaining read.

Okay only about 8 months after buying this book I have finally started reading it and agree that already it is very entertaining. I assumed (wrongly) that this was set AFTER the Jedi vs Sith comic series.... in fact its set prior to that series. Im assuming now it will take us up to those events smile.gif

Excellent stuff, best get back to it.

Blue Guards are the Senate Guard. They are assigned to maintain security within and police the order within the Senate facilities.

The Red Guard on the other hand are the Emperor's (initially Supreme Chancellor's) personal guard. They report directly to the Emperor and are the elite of the elite.

From "The Ultimate Visual Guide"

The Jedi Order: Founded as a philosophical study group, the Jedi Order has its origins in the earliest days of the Republic, many millennia in the distant past. The ancient Jedi spent centuries contemplating the mysterious energy field known as the Force. They became masters at manipulating this energy, and chose to use their skills for good and to help those in need.

The Sith: In the early days of the Old Republic, certain Jedi turned to the dark side of the Force. These "Dark Jedi" were defeated by their former allies, and fled to the far reaches of the galaxy, where they conquered a powerful but malleable species named the Sith. Treated as gods by their new subjects, the Jedi exiles proclaimed themselves the Lords of the Sith.

Page 178 of the Star Wars Chronicles does give you two shots of the Falcon cockpit dashboard from the side angle but they are not thatclear.....

Not sure if they're available online anywhere though - sorry guess that doesn't help much.

'fraid its time for this Jedi Scholar to hang up his robes and pass on the honour of moderatorship of my forums to the next generation.

It has been an honour and privelage contributing to the forums but alas my available time for such pursuits has become less & less and I must become one with the Force.

To all of you who have shared the good times with me here I would like to say thankyou. To the normal members, to my fellow mods and of course to Blue herself for welcoming me into the fold all those years ago, I wish to say thankyou and May The Force Be With You Always.
