Isn't it rude in England if you answer to "How do you do?" ? It took me some time to figure out that this is just a way of greeting another person and you don't expect an answer. Is that right? You expect an answer to "How are you?", though, right?

Thank you for asking that!!!

T*and I am sorry that I am going to kidnap your question*

*takes question and kidnaps it*

To all of the Americans:

How are you supposed to react when someone tells you : "Hello. How are you?"

ANd I don't mean when it's a friend. For like, when I see a frind of mine I really feel the urge to ask how he/she is, and I really MEAN to ask if he/she is ok... So respectively - I would know how to respond, when a friend is asking me the same question. But when a stranger (or the bus operator for instance) asks me "Hello. How are you?" - what do I do?

Please, please help a Bulgarian girl in distress.

*shrug*

Well, not REALLY in distress laugh.gif

Anyway, have a nice day

My personal favorite response to "How are you" is to say, "Frankly that's none of your business and I'd appreciate it if you stayed out of my personal affairs." tounge.gif

Welcome back Leia_. You've been away for a long time. How are you? tounge.gif

According to my Russian teacher, over there you say "how do you live" and answer "nothing" if everything is fine? eyeball.gif Or maybe I misunderstood something...

That just like this: I understood that in England people ask "Is this seat taken" and you answer "no" it means that someone IS sitting on the chair....*confused* eyeball.gif

I always thought that I was an easy-go-lucky type of guy who is usually laid back and doesn't let things get to me. But this weekend I realized that I have a pet peeve that just eats at me over this one thing that I find very rude that happens all the time. I absolutely HATE IT when I go to the grocery store and get a shopping cart and find that someone has left trash in it. GRRRRR!!!! Its getting to be that I get a cart with garbage in it more often than not. Why can't people throw their trash away!!!??? Now, before I can do my shopping, I have to find a trash can to dispose of someone's paper coffee cup or a slightly used napkin. Looking at the wrappers I find in there I can tell if the inconsiderate litterer was a health food nut or a chocoholic. And I always find shopping lists. It's too bad most of those shopping lists don't have the person's name on them. It would be so fun to call one of these shopping cart defilers:

Hi, is this Mr. Gregory Holmes? The Greg Holmes who on July 7th went shopping at Walmart and purchased a gallon of Crisco, a zucchini, and some rubber gloves? Would you please come clean your trash out of your shopping cart? Let me rephrase that, you come clean out this trash or I will tell the world what you were up to, you nasty perv!

When you find someone's trash left in your cart, you have two options. Either clean it out yourself or...you could just continue shopping as if it were a clean cart and return it the way you found it. But if you choose to do the second choice, there is the risk that someone might see you returning a trashed cart and then you look like the bad guy. That's an uncomfortable feeling...the store employee looks dissaprovingly at the cart then at you...and you're just like, "It wasn't me...honestly!"

I just hate that. thinking.gif

Over here, the most common trash I find in a shopping basket is the store's own advertisment this week.. or sometimes from last week. At least there is no risk that you'll find my shopping list left in the basket, since I normally don't have one.

Why don't you go complain to the store manager?

keep doing it all the time over and over again and maybe, just maybe they could hire someone to look after the carts... Maybe he'd be like "cart-cleanliness-assistant" or something smilehuge.gif

And why don't you look at the big law books and see if it's not against any law out there?

sorry to kidnap it for a secnd, but....
mara, baby!!!!

*hugs*

Sorry folks!

It's sooo goood to see you! *hugs* How are you? I got your e-mail! Thank you! satisfied.gif I will answer it ASAP

So about bad manners. The city I live in is a VERY pouplar summer resort and tourist attraction. I was going to do some shopping today but gave up because I couldn't make my way through the packed crowd of tourists going in every direction pushing like their lives were at stake.

But anyway, as I made my way home from an appointment I met an old couple. I don't know if they were tourists or not, but they were eyeballing and glaring at me when I passed them. Now I'm used to people staring at me because I have a disability and drive around on an electric scooter and it doesn't bother me much.

But I still can't belive what the woman did next. She glared at me and then she spit on the ground. I don't know if her spitting had anything to do with me but I still found it extremely offensive, rude and plain out discusting. angry.gif thinking.gif

I spit out the window of my car sometimes because I get really phlegmy. (Too much information, right?) But that is really rude to glare at someone and spit. I hope you kicked her in the shin. tounge.gif
