You will love NJO.

Yeah, I have the feeling I will smilehuge.gif

Some people seem to like them, personally, I never much cared for them and the concept of the Yuuzhan Vong. I stopped reading halfway through Vector Prime and ask my boy friend for a summary of what happened in the rest so I'm not completely in the dark. He didn't like the early ones in the series either but said that they got better but were never near the quality of Zahn books. (And I don't mean any offense to those who do like NJO.)

My favorite will always be The Last Command. But I have a soft spot for the end of Visions of the Future. smile.gif

It's simple.

Start with Shadows of the Empire, and work your way through the Post-ROTJ stuff. Then go back to Prequel era stuff.

I think the NJO series is expanded universe at it's very best. If you love the idea of new villans opening up doorways that were previously untouched,(eg. organic technologies, purification, conversion or destruction) it is the best series. Be prepared to throw everything out the window once you read the Unifying Force. Talk about climactic!

i liked some of the Yuuzhan Vong stuff but lately it seems to have become rather drawn out and a bit tiresome. I much preferred stuff like "Shadows of the Empire" and the fabulous X-wing rogue squadron stuff.

Thrawn and the remnant books were also a long time favourite.

Though my absolute faves were the comic books. "Dark Empire" and the Boba Fett series by John Wagner (of Judge Dredd) with artists like Cam Kennedy and Ian Gibson.

Looking forward to "Purge " though. That looks like a comic book classic. Go Empire!

I'm not crazy about the expanded universe books for the most part. All the writers seem a bit geeky. They all think it's cool to be a bad ass, so ALL the good Jedi are drawn to the dark side. I don't see how Han and Leia could have been such awful parents that both Jacen and Jaina would be tempted to the dark side! Now, a character that we know full well went to the dark side is different. Darth Maul: Path of Destruction is pretty good. I am almost finished and it's kept my interest where most of them don't... Although, the Heir to the Empire books were very good too. However, they could never be made into movies. As Star Wars stories go, they have lots of build-up but very little in the way of real action. -Bob

This has probably been covered, but there's something to be said for the comic series/graphic novel Dark Empire by Michael Veitch and Cam Kennedy. They really go out of their way to invent new and cool stuff and the drawings are awesome. 1 is alot better than 2 IMHO, but they are both worth a look see.

I really enjoyed the novel adaptation of ANH too. Even though Alan Dean Foster has been revealed as writing it, I can't help feeling George Lucas had a hand in editing it or advising on it, because the whole flow of it seems alot more inspired than Splinter in the Mind's Eye to me. Also there is the extra information to be gleaned from Forster's exposition of deleted scenes and rewrites eg. the Journal of the Whills. (Was anyone else disappointed that the librarian in AOTC wasn't a Whill?)

I haven't read any Star Wars book before but I have seen all of the Star Wars movies. I may just ask if I can start with the Darth Bane series or the Bounty Hunter Wars? In what book do you suggest me to read first?

Checking out the Thrawn Trilogy now, however i recommend the Republic Commando books, those were quite intriguing.
