QUOTE (Lúthien @ Jan 31 2004, 05:28 AM)
I've read Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, but I don't remember too much of it. What I really liked about it was finding out more about Darth Maul (for example, the reason for the double-bladed lightsaber.)

ooo!!i didnt read any prequel books...what is the reason for the double bladed lightsaber??

cause the single bladed one is the mark of the jedi, and it requires a much more in depth knowledge of the force to construct a double bladed one, and to use it

and cause it's cool wink.gif

Like many others I usually recommend that new readers start with teh Thrawn trilogy. Similarly for the comics I point folks to the Dark Empire sets & then Tales of the Jedi - the first ones with Nomi Sunrider & Ulic Qel Droma before he went bad.

The novelizations are a good springbopard too. If folks have seen the films they can easily get their heads around the plot whilst enjoying the background plots & get a feel for reading planets & names that they may have only heard pronounced rather than read.

If people want a summary of galactic events I point them to "The Essential Chronology". Once they get into it it's always a good idea to have a copy of the "Guide to the Star Wars Universe" so that they can find out quickly what a Noghri is, or who Callista is, or what the Sun Crusher did, etc...

A little bit a trivia for you.

Alan Dean Foster also wrote the Star Wars movie novelization under George Lucas' name.

Ceri - I have just bumped the other topic called "Where to Start" that was created by Ward.

I had listed out the chronology as I saw it, but that is a few months old now, so I will look at updating it and reposting it soon.
