Anna
things i wonder about on bh forum...

just been looking at the member list. can't really handle the categories

what is a member plus?
and member minus edit?

i think there are more questions coming up, but i forgot them right now
*LeiaOrgana*
Well, a member plus is a member that's posted some 400 times or simmilar. I'm not sure about the number.

But where did you find the category member minus edit? confusedsmall.gif
Anna
thanks...
well i'm sure it was in the member list, but now it's gone confusedbig.gif confusedbig.gif confusedbig.gif
maybe it was just some illusion
*LeiaOrgana*
Could have been a mistake in loading the page, too... confusedsmall.gif

Well, if there are any more questions, fire away! smilehuge.gif

Well, i'm quite sure i saw it too yesterday... but now it's gone confusedsmall.gif
Blue Harvest
Sorry for the late reply guys!

Your eyes didn't play tricks on you. smile.gif That category which is now missing was a temporary solution which I'd forgotten to remove. So thanks for pointing it out! msn_yes.gif

All members who have posted 450 times or more are "Member Plus". It simply means that they, as seasoned members, get more space to store private messages. smile.gif
Anna
oh, thanks...
but what was it?

*curious*
Blue Harvest
Well, you know how different groups like admins, moderators and members have different "powers" and perks in the forum, right? Like how "Members Plus" have the added perk of space for 50 more PMs in their Message Box?
This group was simply a regular member group without the power to edit their own posts. I don't need it anymore so I removed it. smile.gif
Anna
ah, now i understand...

oh yes, i knew there were more questions

what exactly does "spiffy" mean?
i can figure it out more or less, but i'd like to understand it completely...
Blue Harvest
Ah! Ok... if you look up the word in a dictionary you'd get this:

spiffy
A adjective
1 dapper, dashing, jaunty, natty, raffish, rakish, smart, spiffy, snappy, spruce
marked by smartness in dress and manners; "a dapper young man"; "a jaunty red hat"

That's what the word actually means.

They way we use the it here though is slightly different. We use it as a word for something that we like and enjoy. Something cool, good and/or exciting.

Like so: "Ooooo! That's spiffy!" or "I had a spiffy time!".

w00t.gif satisfied.gif smilehuge.gif <- Some spiffy smileys.

It's up to you how you want to use it really. In short; it's forum slang. smile.gif
Anna
spiffy explanation smilehuge.gif
Blue Harvest
Now you've got it! wink.gif
Obi_have
Just out of curiousity...I noticed a couple of people who had over 450 posts that were still in the regular members group...
Blue Harvest
There are a couple of members with over 450 posts who are still "only" regular members, yes.

That's because they haven't posted since the "Members Plus" group was added. If they posted they'd be "promoted" automatically. smile.gif
Anna
oh yes, there goes another one:

viewing the online list, i sometimes see someone "using the user cp"

what's that?
Blue Harvest
CP stands for "control panel". You see that line when someone has clicked the "My Controls" link at the top. It means that they are looking at their forum settings, changing their signature/avy or something like that. smile.gif

by the way, whoever has some questions, you can also post them here.
i don't want to be the only one asking stupid questions
Tyrena
I have a stupid question... Right now there is a "GoogleBot" in the active users list, but it's not marked as any other user in blue, but in black... Why is it there? Aren't the bots just marked as guests? Why is it so special? confusedsmall.gif

Maybe i should post this in the spambots topic, but it's not really spaming, it's just sitting there tounge.gif
Anna
yeah, i also saw it
and you couldn't click on it, like to view the user informations...
Tyrena
It's back paranoid.gif It's viewing "I caught you" topic, maybe it wants to play with us tounge.gif
Anna
now it's viewing battlefront II...
this thing scares me! confusedsmall.gif

I've temporarily activated a feature in the forum which identifies big search bots (like GoogleBot) to see how many they are and how frequently they visit.
You're quite right. They used to be marked as "Guest".

Sorry to freak you out. No cause for alarm. Don't panic! wink.gif
Ceridwen
I saw it too... I thought it was a spambot! laugh.gif

To bad I didn't catch the pesky little devil so I coul deactivate it with my lightsaber
Tyrena
Oh, OK. Thanks for the explanation smilehuge.gif

Ceri - you can deactivate it next time, it seems to visit quite often tounge.gif

Any more questions? smile.gif Don't be shy!
Obi_have
Why is it called a TV set when you only get one?

Why is it so hard to remember how to spell mnemonic?

Why is there an eject button on the VCR remote? Don't you have to get up to get to the tape?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Why does your nose run, and your feet smell?

What was the best thing before sliced bread ?

Because your kids always ask for their own so you have to buy them their own.

Why is it so hard to remember how to spell mnemonic?

Why is there an eject button on the VCR remote? Don't you have to get up to get to the tape?
They haven't invnted the "take tape out" button.

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?
No one wanted to taste a mouse to compare it to see if it really tasted like a mouse.

Why does your nose run, and your feet smell?
The nose runs when it smells the feet

What was the best thing before sliced bread ?
Patrick Roy.

'nother question...
what is the difference between an open topic and a hot topic? well, i can imagine that a hot topic is one that was started not so long ago... but how much time does it take until it's not a hot topic anymore?

oh yes, and could someone please explain me how a synchrotron works? oh how to measure the mass defect of an atom?
sorry, just my physics exams catching up with me tounge.gif
Blue Harvest
An open topic is any topic that you can post in, which hasn't been closed/locked.

All topics that have more than 20 posts in it is a "hot topic". This simply means that there's been enough activity in the topic for it to be considered "hot". A topic never stops being hot once that status has been reached.

As for the physics stuff I'm affraid that it's been way too long since I studied the subject for me to help. smile.gif Try looking it up: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hauptseite

I have another stupid question...

Why does it say that we have 1294 registered members, but my number is 1555, and the newest member has number about 1870? confusedsmall.gif Were some guys in between deleted?
Blue Harvest
Yup, quite right. smile.gif When people register they are assigned a number. The next member to register will be member 1873. If a new member never use their account to post, the account is eventually deleted by the system. That's why the numbers differ.

1294 is how many members we have at the moment, Members who have been active at one time or another.
1872 is how many people who have registered in the forum.

We get rather a lot of people who register on a whim and then forget about it or never post for unknown reasons.
Tyrena
OK I get it. Thanks smilehuge.gif (let me know when you are tired of all those questions)
Blue Harvest
Nonono! This is good! satisfied.gif Ask away if you've got more quesions. smile.gif
Tyrena
Not at this moment... ok, maybe the last one tounge.gif : who is member number 2? Cause you are obviously number one, but who was second on the forum?
queeeeeeen
according to the member list, "miss piggy" joined the same day as blue! they only posted 13 times though smile.gif
Anna
i wanted to look for it myself but then i got tired: who is member number 1138?
Blue Harvest
Hehehe, member 1138, as it turned out, is one of the deleted accounts. smilehuge.gif

If you click on your own name you'll see an URL up in the address firld of your browser that ends with "showuser=" and your member number. Delete that number and type whatever you want, to check up on member 42, 666, 1000 or whatever. wink.gif
