Whoa, this feels weird to start three topics, but what the hey. Anyway on Spike yesterday was RotS and I was watching certain parts of it and one of them was with Padme telling Anakin she was pregnant. Then a question popped into my mind, if Anakin is so powerful in the Force, how come he couldn't tell that Padme had within her twins?

I know some women now-a-days (well heard of these women) who think they have one child and the ultrasound may not pick it up. Then they find out when they're giving birth, could that have happened here? Or isn't their technology supposed to be far more advance than ours? So how come Anakin or anyone else didn't know Padme was carrying twins?

Because it would mess up a perfectly good storyline I suppose. wink.gif tounge.gif

But to get back in-universe, I think we mere mortals overestimate Force-sensitive’s ability to pick up on each other. The Jedi can’t feel that Palpatine is a Sith. Palpatine and Vader can’t find Obi-Wan or Yoda (or even feel that they’re still alive). Palpatine can’t sense Luke coming to Endor.

I think using the Force in this way is like trying to listen for some specific sound in a room full of loud noise. If you aren’t actively trying to hear it you won’t, and even then it’ll be tough. I think Anakin could only sense the presence of life in Padme’s womb, but not well enough to tell how many children she was carrying or anything else about them.

As for why it wasn’t picked up by technology… Maybe Padme never went near a clinic, fearing that the secret would come out. So maybe she’d only used some kind of home-pregnancy-test?

I guess Grand Moff is right when he says that Padme never went to a clinic because the secret may have been discovered by someone. I think that Anakin didn't sense there were two twins because he thought he may have one child (possibly male), maybe a heir to the Empire. What is for sure that GL played on the fact that Anakin/Vader didn't know about Leia, and for a long time before he understood it, he didn't even know about Luke, because he thought that Padme died with the kids.
Bane
As strong as Ani is with the Force, maybe his senses were clouded with emotions and events of the day; the large space battle, the high risk rescue of Palpatine, the fight with Grievous and the anxiety of landing safely. All sorts of things could've clouded his detection of his children.

WEll again I think to a point he would have felt the Life force of the twins, but not necessarly been able to tell the two apart. Especially at such a young development. Also keep in mind Anikin had been away for months at a time due to teh war. And we don't know how far along she was when she told him. Unless your looking for it such a small life form espeically when surouned by the larger life signs of the mother, I'm sure would be hard to detect. However you would have thought Padme would have gotten around to telling him they where having twins. I'm sure she knew. She doesn't strike me as the type that would neglect herself durring pregnancy.

Oh alright I get it, thanks all. I guess I keep thinking if someone is very powerful in the Force like Anakin or Luke, they can do it all. Which is wrong thinking.

Well keep in mind too. that especially if you've read alot of EU stuff. Aurthors adjust what jedi or individuals can or can't do based on their needs of the characters for the particualr story or direction of the story they are wanting to take. So it can definatly lead to variations in what can and can't be done through the force

The EU has heightened Force powers to absolutely ridiculous levels. In the movies, Force powers are not nearly so exaggerated.

Perhaps Anakin only sensed one baby because the two babies' Force-auras or whatever they're called were so meshed together that they felt like one. Kind of like how the separate heartbeats of unborn twins can be so in sync that they sound like one heartbeat.

As for technology not being able to tell that there was more than one baby, I'm guessing Padmé never went to the medcenter, for fear that her pregnancy would be discovered.

Leiafan--yeah the EU has gone too far with some things, but I like it how they explored the Force in certain ways the movies didn't do and how the Jedi can do those certain powers.

And thanks everyone, I get it now. smilesmall.gif

The EU hasn't "explored" the Force, it's twisted it beyond recognition to give undeserved absolution to various "popular" Imperials and Sith and Sith-wannabes, and all combinatons thereof.
