I absolutely loved The Nightmare Before Christmas...

Henry Selick, who directed Nightmare has a new film out on Feb 6th called Coraline. It's based off a book I'm currently reading by Neil Gaiman (my fave author...if you recall).

The website is awesome, and is quite interactive. Clips, movie snippets, and production cuts have all been assembled in a fun, and quirky kind of site.

The movie stars Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Saunders (Edina from Ab Fab), Teri Hatcher, and PC Guy from the Apple commercials.

I'm so looking forward to seeing this.

Coraline

i agree with you smilehuge.gif sounds like a good movie to me. tounge.gif But what i really want to see is Mall Cop! smilehuge.gif
Madison_rogue
I'm not much for watching Mall Cop, even though I understand it's hilarious.

I might rent it on DVD though. I can't justify spending $10.00 to go see it though.
priha
I may get it on dvd too.most movies i go to the theater to see are stupid.Except for Marley and Me . That was a sad movie. sad.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Creepy is cool, but stop action puppetry is really creepy cool!

Well, he started out writing Sandman graphic novels back in the late 80's early 90's. I have a copy of #2 Sandman lying around somewhere. I really need to find it.

His movies:

Mirrormask
Stardust (book/comic adaptation)
Coraline (book adaptation)

Television:

Neverwhere (BBC Mini)

He co-wrote Good Omens with Terry Pratchett

And then he has written a whole bunch of books too...

American Gods
Anansi Boys
Neverwhere (book adaptation of the BBC mini)
Fragile Things
Coraline
Smoke & Mirrors (I have yet to own this)
The Graveyard Book (I have yet to own this too)

He's all over the place. His storytelling is brilliant IMO!

I'm a fan. smilehuge.gif
TheQuestioner
I have everything on that list besides Coraline and the Sandman comics... smilehuge.gif

I'm somewhat of a fan myself, though I find his style gets a little repetitive after awhile. American Gods bored me half to death, though Neverwhere was good, and Good Omens was brilliant.

I want to see this movie, it looks good..

is it directed by tim burton?
Madison_rogue
No, it's directed by Henry Selick...who also directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, and James & the Giant Peach.

Tim Burton wrote Nightmare and produced James & the Giant Peach...he didn't direct either project, although Nightmare's title leads you to believe as such. winksmall.gif

(Thanks for clearing up that confusion about Burton's involvement with Nightmare. I'd been wondering that myself but hadn't gotten around to looking it up yet.)

Saw Coraline...visually impressive, especially in 3D. But there were some changes to the story I didn't care for.

Coraline is a spectacle to be seen in the theaters first in 3D. I am a huge Gaiman fan from the Sandman series and Stardust. I only read Coraline last year when I found out about the movie.

Despite some tweaks and additions, the movie follows the book pretty well. There's more of a mystery in the book and doesn't have certain added characters in the movie. But the movie is still enjoyable even if you haven't read the book.

I also have an artists background, and let me say that the cinematography is astounding even without 3D. I've seen 3D movies before and most make the technique into a "look-what-we-can-do" kind of mentality. Coraline is the only one I have seen where the 3D technique actually enhances the story.

The only thing I noticed in the theater was that parents were bringing their toddlers to see it, and I was afraid that it would be too creepy and scary for that age. I don't know. I guess it depends of the parents. It is rated PG.

Now with Stardust and Coraline out of the way, I will be waiting impatiently for Death And Me, the directorial debut of Gaiman himself based on Death: The High Cost Of Living graphic novel.

i already have it on my "to watch" list smilehuge.gif cant wait!

Anyone see this yet? Looks very exciting and IMDB rates it as an 8+, so that's promising. msn_yes.gif

I just finished reading American Gods, which was quite good.
As far as Gaiman goes - his adaptation of a classic fairytale in Snow Glass Apples, voiced by Bebe Neuwirth, still stands out as my favorite.
Madison_rogue
I finally saw it last night in 3-D even! First 3-D movie I've ever seen in the theater, and I absolutely enjoyed it.

I think it's a great movie, although I'm all ready in the msn_yes.gif corner because I'm a Gaiman fan. You should see it Blue. I think you'll enjoy it a lot. wink.gif

Question is, should I be a naughty girl or wait for it to come to the cinema here in Sweden? Well to be honest, I'm not even sure it will be shown in the cinema where I live confusedsmall.gif
Madison_rogue
Why not do both? Watch it now, and if it's shown in Sweden in 3D watch it again.

It's definitely worth watching in 3D. smilehuge.gif
